A.J. Fries' work has been described as "nostalgic," "cosmic," "powerful without being overstated," and "unreal yet admittedly appetizing." Of course, the majority of his work focuses on the mass consumerism of American popular culture, and such large-scale portraits of Oreos and Ring Pops show the "elegance that can exist in such mundane materials." Fries studied Art at the State University College at Buffalo and received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in 1995 . Since then he has been busy with public art installations, two and three person exhibitions, group exhibitions, and corporate exhibitions. He has participated in every Buffalo Arts Studio Annual Members' Show from 1993 - 1997, as well as shows at The Phoenix Gallery, Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, Big Orbit Gallery, and the Western New York Artist's exhibition. In addition to gallery shows and exhibitions, Fries has also worked as an art teacher for the Parkside Summer Arts Program, as a stage prop designer for the Western New York Academy of Dance, and as a Visual Display Artist for both MJ Designs and Media Play of Amherst, New York.
