A graduate of
Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, William
G. Koch studied sculpture and received his Bachelors of Fine Arts
in 1985. Worth mentioning is his experience working with international
and national sculptors Lester Van Winkle, Chuck Henry, Myron Helfcott
and Joe Siepel. In 1985 he assisted in the building and setup of
Francisco Torres' traveling installation entitled "Tough Limo."
Koch served in the United States Army from 1985 to 1988, where he
was stationed in Germany and had the opportunity to extensively
travel throughout Europe while on active duty.
Since 1988
he has been the Chief Design Artist at Stone Art Memorial Co., Inc.,
in Lackawanna, New York. There he oversees large scale projects
and creates and implements all art work requiring sculpture and
diamond etched techniques. Koch also runs his own independent design
business, William G. Koch Designs, which he opened in 1996. There
he creates commissioned work in stone, glass, and wood and is also
available for consultation for large scale projects for business,
private and non-profit clients. Projects include "Hunter's Angel,"
an 8 foot granite angel commissioned by Jim and Jill Kelly, "Colonel
John B. Webber Post Memorial", a 20 foot granite wall hand etched
depicting historical events of John B. Webber's life and a fourteen
foot granite sculpture and pedestal of the colonel, and sixteen
glass door windows depicting Franciscan Saints and Martyrs for St.
Francis of Assissi in Athol Springs, New York. Koch was recognized
by Stone in America's national memorial design contest, where he
won Best in Design for the 2000 edition. His work has been published
in the Forest Lawn Cemetery's Buffalo History Preserved,
in 1996. William Koch has been a Buffalo Arts Studio member since
1993.
