Project CREATE, (Community Revitalization through Environmental Art and Team Efforts), began in 1993 as a city wide mural program. This program was created to develop art skills and build teamwork, while giving students a feeling of ownership in their community.

Core curriculum incorporated into the program includes: Art, Science-Environment, and nature, and History–cultural heritage. In the past Buffalo Arts Studio have created 41 murals, with the help of over 10,000 students. BAS works with art teachers, and school principals to create the schedule for the mural project.

Over a six week period BAS muralists give a series of lectures regarding the program before its start date. Muralists are hired to teach the students touching composition and technique, scale, patterns, perspective, and form. For many of these students, this is their first significant experience in the arts. Students acquire skills and gain a sense of accomplishment through the program, and leave behind a legacy piece of art in their community.

Many students in the mural program requested additional arts training, and in 1999 the Education Program was added to Project CREATE providing scholarships for a long term professional arts training at Buffalo Arts Studio for inner-city youth.
