Jump Start Program Goals

Ensure each Jump Start student gets into college and receives a MFA or equivalent degree.

How We Work to Achieve Goals

• Work with youth from 6th grade through college graduation
• Provide three intensive six week art courses throughout the year. Emphasis drawing and painting from life (this is what most colleges want to see in portfolios)
• Development Days to encourage self-esteem and build relationships through a variety of experiences related to the visual arts
• Visiting museums and cultural sites
• Assistance with summer placement in camps or work programs in the visual arts
• Pairing students with Mentors
• Unique opportunities to work with professional artist
• Financial assistance with art supplies while enrolled in college

What is art -

Knowing oneself is part of being an artist, drawings, sculptures and paintings are ways we can convey our message. When working I am influenced by my surroundings. The emotions of a friend or acquaintance can inspire a character or mood in my work. My art shows how I see different things and perceive different sounds through my imagination.
