Edward Y. J. Millar (he/him) is a folklorist, curator, and documentary filmmaker with over a decade of experience in ethnography and museology. Growing up between New Jersey and Singapore, Millar earned his M.A. in Folklore from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2014, and has published, presented, and led coursework on exhibition development and cultural heritage. Millar’s curatorial practice and commitment to accessibility is informed by his experience working directly with community-based artists and underrepresented cultural and artistic communities. A passion for socially and culturally responsive creative expressions, he is dedicated to providing a platform for artists and community members to share their stories directly with audiences—whether through exhibitions, programs, or multimedia content.

Millar joins the Buffalo Arts Studio following his time as the Curator of Folk Arts at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, where he led the museum’s Folk Arts program (2015-2025). At Buffalo Arts Studio, Millar collaborates with artists and community partners to develop exhibitions within the three gallery spaces, curates exhibition content and programming, conducts gallery tours, supports regional artists in grant research and applications, manages the studio artist program, and more. Outside of work, Millar enjoys spending time with his family, exploring foodways, playing video games, and reading folktales and mythology.
