A portrait can mean many things! In this class we will look at interesting ways to explore your personal identity through artmaking. By the end of the class, each student will have compiled their ideas to create a large-scale work of art that represents themselves. Basic painting and drawing skills will be taught, and a variety of techniques and methodologies investigated, with attention given to those who wish to expand their knowledge of painting, drawing, and composition. This workshop is for all levels and presents drawings as a creative process to practice focus, mark making, and hash out ideas. Students will be creating a series of drawings with the use of paint, stencils, color pencils, thread, watercolors and inks. The intent of this workshop is to explore and loosen up your art making through testing out a variety of materials on multiple sheets of paper. The instructor will share her techniques of building layers and experimenting with drawing tools to gradually develop with each work. A series of small 5 by 7 inch drawings on paper become a way to exercise your artistic expression. At the end of the workshop, participants will have created a series of mixed media works on paper. A supply list will be provided.
