Beyond/In Western New York 2010: Alternating Currents

September 24, 2010 – January 1, 2011
This international contemporary art exhibition—the product of a unique curatorial collaboration among twelve of Western New York’s museums and galleries—showcased the work of over 100 extraordinary artists from the region and beyond. Works in an expansive range of media, all connected under a common theme, Alternating Currents, were on display beginning with the Beyond/In WNY Opening Weekend (September 24–26), and extending through the end of 2010. Installations by featured international artists also became permanent parts of the region’s landscape, serving as lasting impressions of the biennial.

“Imagine Yourself in a Fairy Tale”
November 7, 2010
Using the tropes, symbols, and visual language associated with fairytales, students constructed tiny visual fables. Through a mixture of collage, painting, drawing, and text, artists built two-dimensional pieces by juxtaposing images and information in an attempt to build tiny visual fables.
