The exchange included four site visits (two by each group), resulting in two distinct exhibitions featuring resident artists of Buffalo Arts Studio and The Distillery Program, curated by Jill Larson & Kara Skylling of The Brew House and Cori Wolff of BAS, respectively. Artists from both organizations had the chance to visit galleries in each other’s host city, share and discuss the processes and concepts behind their art, and take advantage of the unique opportunity to exhibit and market their work to a new audience.
An opening reception showcasing BAS resident artists took place on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at The Brew House in Pittsburgh. An exhibition opening reception featuring work by The Distillery Program resident artists took place on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at BAS in Buffalo. Both events were free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS

Buffalo Arts Studio (BAS) is a not-for-profit arts organization whose mission is to provide affordable studio space and regular public exposure for regional, national, and international artists through exhibitions, and to enrich the community with art classes, mural programs, and public art. Exhibitions, public art projects, and classes help the studio serve as a cultural center.

The Distillery Program at the Brew House Association is a program that acts as a stepping stone for participants as they move toward new phases of artistic production and career development. The program addresses the current need for relevant professional development related to the arts as well as support for working artists by providing individuals with a dynamic arena in which to pursue studio practice, career development, and exhibition opportunities.
