Patrick Foran

Patrick Foran’s work is concerned with the visual culture of disasters and emergencies, especially within news imagery and other mediated forms of representation. His drawings and paintings isolate, fragment, and reframe events within the context of our particular and contemporary catastrophe. Recent projects have considered iterations of “the wall” in political ideology, the computer modeling of human remains, aesthetic connections between sporting events and political demonstrations, machine vision and false color, and the facelessness of portraiture. Originally from Michigan, he studied English and Visual Studies at Cornell University (MA) and Art and Visual Studies at the University at Buffalo (MFA). His work has been shown recently at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center and El Museo. He lives in Buffalo, NY, and teaches English literature and studio art at the University at Buffalo, Niagara University, and Niagara County Community College.
